Ballesteros makes ‘90% recovery’

May 6th, 2009 - Chris Marshall

Golf legend Seve Ballesteros says he is “recovered 90%” and is hitting golf balls again after undergoing extensive treatment for a brain tumour.

The 52-year-old five-time major winner has had four operations and recently made his first public appearance since the start of his treatment.

“Now I am perfect, I can do any kind of sport, running, swimming, rowing and I am also hitting golf shots,” he said.

“The fact that I was a sportsman and used to competing and fighting helped.”

Ballesteros admitted he had “suffered like a dog” during his illness and will need to undergo a fifth round of chemotherapy, but his condition is improving.

“The results of my last tests at La Paz Hospital in Madrid showed I was on the right path,” he said.

“I will go on working to get better each day.” (Via Expat Life Spain)

Wow that is great news. Have to say I only ever think of him when I read your updates, guess that is why I read your blog several times a day LOL

There was a piece about him during the BBC coverage of the Masters (a couple of weeks ago). I must admit, I didn’t realise how ill he had been.
What good memories, as they showed some of the old videoclips of his successes both individually, and as a great leader for the European Ryder cup team.

Here’s hoping for a complete recovery. He has always come across as a true gentleman and a sporting great. Even in defeat, he was honourable – a trait which is becoming less obvious with some of todays high profile sportsmen.

    Well said Francis!
