Another Chinese Supper

March 10th, 2008 - Sandra Marshall

I think I may have blown out on Chinese for now. Having not had one for ages, I seems to have been 3 times in just over a month to the Wok Buffet Shanghai. It is definitely good value and the crispy duck and selection of veggies and meats to be stir-fried to order are good. However I have to agree with one of my friends that the starters and rice and noodles on the buffet table could be a lot hotter, I think it depends a little when you go and how much things are being replenished. Anyway I still like the option of being able to chose exactly what I want in my main course and being able to load up on the vegetables, so I will be back, but I will be making sure we get some freshly cooked sesame toast and prawns brought to the table next time, as for some reason that didn’t happen last night.

    Has lost my vote!!!

The starters are cold and uninspiring. The curry sauce was disgusting, truly horrible!!! I know I could have just sent it all back and started again as it was eat all you want buffet but that didn’t seem right somehow - I hate to see food wasted.

Agree the duck is nice, but if you have to eat that on every visit as it is the only decent thing as a starter it will soon become boring.

Prawn crackers are good, and if they got the starters sorted it would be a great place - but as sorting them in this day and age would be really easy my thought is that is how they will remain.

Another plus is the staff - very friendly and good fun.

Overall though my inclination (as always) is to spend a bit more and get exactly what you want, so I reckon it will be a while before you drag me back there.

You could always try the similar one next door. Some people say they prefer it.

That is true, but Chinese is so low down on my food preferences that I am no sure I can be bothered :-)
