Almerimar Then …… And Now

The Old Marina

I must thank Francis for pointing out the above photo to me and at the same time jogging my memory as to a post I had started to work on ages ago.

If you wander round the marina you will see in the hotels, older bars and restaurants, and in many peoples homes (although I guess you can’t just wander in to their homes) a number of old photos of Almerimar. Not surprisingly they are very much the same collection as they naturally didn’t take too many photos ‘back in the day’

I love these old photos, not just for their classic ‘look and feel’ but because they provide a great reminder of just how much ALmerimar has changed.

    I’m not sure when the top photo was taken, but there is no sign of the marina – early 80′s?
    Interesting how the golf course is present, as are the 3 hotels. Obviously golf was to be the main ‘activity’ for the further development of the area. I wonder if that is still the case today. It seems that golf is taking a back seat.
    The third photo (the entrance)was taken in 1987 (I think!)

    How things have changed!

    They sure have changed!! I think they still hope to build business around the golf course and the luxury spa hotel they have planned, but I wouldn’t hold my breath, and if they do I think that will be the end for a lot of the local golfers as they don’t really want them judging by the way they have treated golfers over the years here.
