Almerimar Restaurants - La Solea

March 17th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

La Solea has always been one of our favourite restaurants so it was a shame to see it ‘close’ but good to see that it had been taken over.

The inside looks pretty nice judging by these pictures, but I have to say I am disappointed by the menu - which is a little hard to see in the picture. In my view it is a very narrow choice and very expensive. Now it may well be the best food in the world but at those prices I think they will struggle.

We were thinking of trying it out this Friday but to be honest I am not sure there is anything on the menu that appeals (certainly at those prices) and I sort of can’t see the point of trying something that it is virtually certain wouldn’t become a regular haunt.

Let me give you some examples:

Jamón Ibérico 22€
Quaso Curado 18€
Tomate Rafe 15€

Chuletón de buey 25€

What I liked most about the ‘old’ La Solea was the balance of affordability and quality, and the way you could sit and share racionnes.

I wish the new owners well, but as I sait can’t really see the point or attraction of trying it out.

Approximate opening hours are 11.00 to 18.00 and 20.00 to 00.00, 6 days a week. Closed Tuesdays.

While I do not mind paying for quality, I would feel slightly uncomfortable paying over £10 for some ‘cured’ cheese as a starter. However, the best of luck to the new establishment.

Congratulations to Almería on earning a creditable draw (2-2)with Barca at the weekend. Europe still beckons!

Looking forward to a cold drink on Friday.

    Tenga suerte.

Well buying Jamon and Queso in a restaurant has always been very expensive to be fair.

It isn’t something that we tend to buy out, we like to have good Jamon and Queso in the house!

Cold drink? That is a step up from a coffee :-)

Heard from a neigbour who thought of going for lunch last week. Admittedly they were early but when they got there the staff etc were eating lunch and showed no signs of wanting to help them or ensure they came back later - which of course they didn’t!!!

Sounds an interesting way to treat potential new customers in your first week (well any week to be honest) ……
