Almerimar Life WebCam Update

May 8th, 2009 - Chris Marshall

I finally got round to sorting out a outside power source and a permanent fixing for the WecCam!

I had hoped to set it in three different positions to try and give more variety to the view, but the option of the roof didn’t work as the WiFi signal wasn’t really strong enough to stream reliably from so high up, and I really didn’t want to add another WiFi booster to the equation. The right hand side of our balcony would have given a great view over towards Guardias Viejas but when it panned to the left it picked up too much of our balcony to be a practical option.

That said where it is now facing out the front of the balcony is about perfect! We can pan round to the nature reserve almost, and pan down to our street!. This last one has already proved very useful as earlier I glanced at the WebCam on my screen and saw Sands returning in the Jeep. I them remembered that when she left she told me to clean the kitchen up ….. saved by the WebCam as by the time she got up to the apartment I had tidied the kitchen and put the kettle on!

With the new position we should be able to leave it out in the wind which will hopefully give some interesting views of the stormy sea, but we will still need to bring it in when it rains. For now though I have programmed in a number of positions that the WebCam can automatically pan round so hopefully you will see a little more than the same old view that it has been showing recently.

I know how many of you enjoy the WebCam so hopefully this will make it an even better feature of the site for you!

Very cool. I had noticed earlier actually that the WebCam was panning ….. thought you were just fiddling with it :-)

tuning in to the webcam is something I do on a daily basis – particularly sunrise (a bit early for me!) and sunset.

It is good to see a change in the view. Does the new setting show the d bar? I am not aware of its location. Worth a visit??

Same with me, love the WebCam, in that ‘love hate, not at all jealous’ way :-)

The D-Bar can be seen on one of the new positions. The one that looks to the left at the Spirit de Mar cock up has a small tower block on the left as you look at it, with the road coming up on the right.

The D-Bar is located there, so out of the marina. I know Chris likes it and uses it a lot, and we went last time we were over for the first time and had a great time. Best Tapas in the marina, 22 I recall Chris saying they had, and they sell them for 1€ if you want extra or drinking soft drinks.

Agree! I also really like the fact that the WebCam page shows a number of images taken from the WebCam so that when like Francis I can’t get up early enough to see the WebCam stream I can see images of the sunrise that I missed!

Thanks, glad you like it!! Had to get up in the middle of the night and bring it in as was thunder and lightning :-(

I am really pleased with the new position for it now!!!
