Almerimar Life Readers Question – Week 6

December 15th, 2008 - Chris Marshall

Here is our sixth Readers Question from Gary:

How long do you typically take on a post?

That all depends on the type of post to be honest. As the blog is primarily a personal reflection of life here in Almerimar the personal style posts like more paella success don’t take too long as. The most time consuming element of that type of post is the processing and uploading of any video or photos, as the actual words I tend to construct in my own mind as I actually experience the ‘event’.

The posts that take the longest are the feature posts like D-Bar is NOT an English Bar which usually take a couple of weeks. First up I have to have the idea, then I need to figure how and when best to position it, and then I need to capture any videos and photos. As for the writing I tend to make notes in an application called Evernote which syncs between all my computers and iPhone so I can make notes and draft the post wherever I am. The actual constructing of the posts like this don’t actual take that long, but the preparation is the key.

Short news posts like political correctness a load of rubbish are more a matter of keeping on top of the RSS feeds and reacting quickly i.e. not letting them build up or become out of date. Of course with the new in the news posts I copy over the details into Evernote and build up the post during the week.

A lot depends on how you work as an individual I guess. I tend to stay focussed on the blog pretty much 24/7 in that I am always thinking about content, drafting articles either on the Mac or in my head, and am always open to new ideas and content.

Please note that this will be the last readers question for 2008. I will cover a number of the remaining questions in a variety of general posts in the future and I will announce later how you can continue to suggest content for the site, or ask specific questions. For now though THANKS for some great questions!!

Thanks. I hadn’t realised just how much of a 24/7 lifestyle thing the blog was. I am not sure I could devote as much time to a blog as you do!!!!

Keep up the excellent work though.

I can be, but it doesn’t have to be. It depends what type of blog you are trying to run. Chris’s blog does require a lot of work, like a lot of the news blogs. But there are others that really don’t require a lot of work. It all depends on what you want.

This from a guy that spends an age on his (excellent) photos for his blog :-) In Mac’s case the blogging is easy, the content requires real talent and time!

  4. Mac Sokulski Says:

Aw…. shucks Chris…. made me blush…. but I have to update my blog soon, as I haven’t done anything in weeks. Soon though…sooon.

  5. Chris Marshall Says:

  6. Mac Sokulski Says:

  7. Chris Marshall Says:
