Almerimar Chiringuitos Update

June 21st, 2009 - Chris Marshall

I have written before about how ugly I think the new Chiringuitos in Almerimar are and the Forum recently had news that they had been ‘handed over‘ officially which in no way means they are ready to open!

As you will see from the photos below some are still far from completed! For the record there are eight (8) Chiringuitos along the two beaches in Almerimar:

The back of the two chiringuitos by the old hotel – lovely view eh!

The first chiringuito and probably the first to open?

The second chiringuito by the old hotels site.

Chiringuito 3, the first on the beach on the Guardias Viejas side

So why do I dislike them?

Well first let me say that I am all for seeing the authorities spending money on improving Almerimar, and in many ways they do, but ………

  1. I really don’t see how they will attract NEW people to Almerimar and any investment at this time should be focussed on that
  2. I think there are enough existing bars, restaurants and ice cream places along the beach already, so the chiringuitos are probably going to take business away from them
  3. They all look the same! Think ‘franchise’!
  4. They aren’t on the beach so really ‘just another’ bar beside the beach, see point 2

Now, Almerimar is certainly a long term investment project and to that extent they may well be popular and add value in future years, but for now I think they will just end up as half empty places that dilute the send from existing bars and restaurants.

I just can’t visualise sitting in them in the early hours of the morning listening to the waves with the sand between my toes before walking home along the beach. I really hope they do well, but not at the expense of the existing bars and restaurants. I guess time will tell.

As ever, would love to hear what you think about them ….

I agree with your opinion. For one, franchising could definitely bring business in!

Great post Chris, I like the way the further away you get from Almerimar the more unfinished they are!! Seems like they will be a bit of an eye sore for some time!

Hate to say it but I do agree with you. Long term they should be fine but right now they are not needed at all.

LOL I guess the fact that it looks like you could have taken the same picture from different angles proves your point, although a slight variation on some with the colour of the roofs!!!
