A Week Of Celebration - Virgen Del Carmen In Almerimar
July 11th, 2008 - Chris Marshall
Today sees the start of the weeks celebration here in Almerimar in honour of the Virgen Del Carmen. If you are unsure as to when it all starts and ends listen out for the canons!!! We are in for a loud week with canons going off morning and evening as part of the celebrations. Moreno for sure doesn’t like them, although he has got better, although Saidi doesn’t seem to mind them that much.
As we wrote last year “On the evening of July 16 her effigy is paraded through the streets and taken for a trip around the bay on a flower-adorned boat, accompanied by a flotilla of “jábegas” (fishing boats).” The celebrations will end with a very impressive fireworks display on the 16th, but before that we have some excellent events to look forward to over in the Beach bar, following the ‘opening celebrations tonight.
The celebrations start on the evening of the 11th with some fireworks and a small celebration in the marina, but the main event organised by the Foro kicks off on the 12th with the Beatles Tribute band that failed to turn up last year because of the excessive wind, followed by Flamenco on the 13th, Fiesta Ibicenca on the 14th and 15th and the Orquesta Simetria on the 16th. The Foro have organised for tapas and drinks to be available throughout the day (Midday Fairs) at the Club de Playa (Beach Club), with more substantial food and drinks available in the evenings. The bars in the evening are run by Fosil and 2F, and the rugby club have got together with Cafe H@cker to run one of the bars during the week, which is known as “Feria del Mediodia”
There is of course the Private Party by invite only on the 16th as well, with the local dignitaries, business men etc. See you there ………..
Thanks to Roberto for the information and the invite. And to Alberto for the details about the Rugby Club bar.
The Circus runs from the 11th through the 15th at 10pm each evening, and the Jornadas Gastronomicas has a certain attraction as Sands said.
And amongst all the fun of the week don’t forget the opening of La Barbera on Monday evening.
