A Day In The Month Of - Spontaneity
September 28th, 2007 - Sandra MarshallIsn’t it often the case that the most relaxing, fun evenings (or lunches!) are often the unplanned ones?
Yesterday evening I was busy doing stuff, then Chris and I got chatting, it got later and I finally fessed up that I wasn´t actually going to get around to cooking any supper! Plan B was a wander down to the port to see what was open and what we fancied eating. I still haven´t quite got to grips with which bar/restuarant closes on which days. How great though to have so much choice on our doorstep. We were actually pretty lucky in the UK in that we had a fish & chip shop, pubs and an Indian restuarant within 5 mins walk of our appartment. But a whole marina is definitely one better.
The unanimous decision was finally some chicken at the Asador, a simple, unfussy meal that never lets us down, along with some salad and a glass of house red. That certainly filled a gap and would probably have been the end of the evening as we were both tired, had it not been for the fact that the marina is still fairly busy and we had ended up parking a little way away.
As it turned out on our stroll back to the car, we walked past El Farol, waved at Oscar and then decided to go in and say hello as we have been a little hermit like recently when it comes to nights out. What followed was a good chat and a few more glasses of red wine. Fantastic!
That is definitely the great thing about living so close to lots of bars and restaurants open at all hours of the day and night … the luxury of options.
All you need to add to that is a flexible attitude to life. No problem that I quite naturally didn´t fancy getting up early this am to run my 7km, as I have no plans to go out tonight and will be in much better shape at 8.30 am tomorrow.
Here´s to spontaneity!
