A Day In The Month Of – Spanish Hours
September 5th, 2007 - Sandra MarshallHad an email from my sister last night who had just got back from a week´s holiday near Malaga. I was a little surprised that they were doing another holiday over here in August as none of them like the sun and stay pretty white! but they did want a relaxing week, and a break from the UK weather. I was interested to hear however how they had coped with the heat.
Apparently they walked on the beach, and did other stuff in the mornings when it was cooler, had long lunches, chilled out after with the aircon on and then went down to the pool early evening before supper. Overall very Spanish and exactly how I have largely survived August here. Of course there are lots of holiday makers who hit the beach all day but for people living here all the time avoiding the afternoon sun with a nice siesta having eaten your main meal of the day makes perfect sense.
Another thing I noticed last week when Chris and I went down to the marina around 9pm for an ice-cream was the number of people (mainly Spanish) walking along the beach after dark with their dogs and children. It seemed that everyone had come out as the sun went went down for a stroll, a coffee or an ice-cream like us. It was too early for anyone to be out for the night. It was just early evening chilling out in Spain.
