A Day In The Month Of - Saturday Coffee
September 2nd, 2007 - Sandra MarshallHi there. I thought I´d try a kind of journal for a month to write about day to day life in Almerimar. This is not going to be a ´got up and had tea’ etc. which goes through my entire day, it´s just going to talk about a few things each day. SOooo here goes!
Firstly what’s Saturday for Sunday? Heard about this concept on the Telegraph Podcast. Basically as I can´t write about what I haven´t done yet, you´re probably mostly going to get these posts the next day, so just pretend its 12 hours earlier! i.e. you get Saturday on Sunday! Anyway enough of that …
Saturday am and it´s the first of September, so time to start posting! After a leisurely weekend start to the day, I got picked up by a girlfriend for coffee, and a few errands. (EVEN if you don´t work full-time or at all, I still think the weekend should be a more relaxing, ‘chill-out’ time … no chores, running etc. in my case. Had this chat with said girlfriend once that the problem with giving up formal work was that you effectively lost the weekend! Nice problem to have I hear some of you saying!!!) Anyway back to Saturday morning. Really I should have walked down to the port as it is only 10 mins away but who wants to arrive for a coffee sweating?
We automatically headed for The Mileni0, the buzziest and most chic cafe/bar in the port. It almost could be in a cool town back in the UK with its marble, trendy tables and yes! designer toilets, AND the fact that it was packed, mainly with Spanish people who love being out for breakfast and coffee. I really like the atmosphere, the coffee which is strong even when I decide to be good and order decaf, and maybe this is a bit sad but I also like the fact that they actually do ‘integral’ tostadas! However they also do cakes and biscuits, lots of other goodies and WICKED doughnuts, so when my friend suggested the chocolate cream variety, all thoughts of a fairly healthy breakfast disappeared. Milenia doughnuts are like the carrot cake was in my favourite cafe in wimbledon Village … well worth the calories!
Great girlie chat and then I dragged my friend off to the newly opened fruteria for tomatos and potatoes. Great to be able to just pick up a few bits and not have to buy packets as in the Mercadona, and to be able to touch and choose the best fruits, AND I can recommend the prices.
Overall a great morning …
Still tough to get too much done in the afternoons here as it is SOooo hot. Here speaks a fair skinned person who can really do without the August sun! So have just enjoyed my Siesta time! Now I’m off to be a kind of ‘radio star’, as Chris has recently set up Almerimar Life TV and Podcast and wants me to do some voice-overs! Don´t think I´m going to get my Saturday night out as I can see numerous retakes ahead and already I have that leisurely feeling returning.
More tomorrow … or maybe today!!!
